Report: Don Cheadle Taking Miles Davis Story To Broadway, Movie Version To Follow

Well this is something:

BroadwayWorld.com is reporting that actor Kevin Navayne is set to make his Broadway debut as Miles Davis in a Broadway play about the jazz legend.

Directed and produced by Don Cheadle, the show is aiming for a short run on Broadway in 2013.

Um…. Let’s look at that block-quote again.

Directed and produced by Don Cheadle, the show is aiming for a short run on Broadway in 2013.

The story on BroadwayWorld.com reports that, the as-yet-unnamed play, “will be based on Davis as a musician, but will also a deep look into his personal life and the trials and tribulations that came with it. The concept will also be made into a film starring Don Cheadle in 2013, in which Navayne will play Marcus Miller, Davis’s bassist.”

Wow!

We’ve known for awhile (almost 2 years) about Navayne’s involvement with the film, but this Broadway play news is definitely out of left field. I like it, I’m just shocked.

Thus far, I haven’t seen any comments from Cheadle, or anyone from the Miles Davis estate.

But still – wow!
