Whatever Happened With Puff Daddy’s Miles Davis Project?

Way back in July 2008 I wrote about a video interview where Puffy states that he’s always wanted to play Miles Davis and that a script is being written for the project.

Puff states his role as Davis would not be a ‘typical’ portrayal of the legendary jazz star.

Here’s the LINK to the video clip (it’s at the end…).

I haven’t seen one word about such a movie (after a quick Google search), so unless it’s still alive on Puff’s slate and being kept tightly under wraps, it seems as if the project is no more.

He certainly seemed serious enough in the video clip; he says he’s always had ‘a dream to play Miles Davis.’

I can’t say I’m sad if this project is no more. Puff Daddy as Miles Davis? It’s just not cricket.

Even if Puffy was really serious, all it takes is one phone call to Don Cheadle to understand how difficult a process it is to bring the life of Miles Davis to the big screen.

It seems Puff Daddy will join Wesley Snipes in the ‘failed to bring the life of Miles Davis to the big screen’ club. All eyes on you, Don Cheadle.

  1. Though the idea of a Miles Davis movie continues to intrigue, personally I’m glad this project seems to have died. A musical mediocrity like Sean Combs has no business anywhere near Miles’ story…
