Miles Davis Inspires New College Scholarship

ALTON — “The Alton Museum of History and Art began accepting applications for a new scholarship related to native son Miles Davis.

The Miles Davis Scholarship in the amount of $250 is available to every graduating high school senior who wants to pursue a post-secondary degree — not just music or art majors — from two- and four-year educational institutions.

The Miles Davis Jazz Festival’s 15-member board decided this year for the first time to offer a scholarship to provide an incentive to students to further their education. The scholarship was established in the spirit of giving back to the community. Applications are due to the Alton Museum of History and Art at 2809 College Ave., Alton, IL 62002, by July 1. Organizers asked students to mail applications to the attention of the Miles Davis Jazz Committee.” (Jill moon)
